Morgan D. Mead

feature film director / VFX artist

"A ship in harbor is safe -- but that is not what ships are built for."
-John A. Shedd

Filmmaker. Mad scientist. Obsessive. Fiercely loyal. Over the line and outside the box. Analytical. Semi-punctual. Precise. Pondering. Perpetually calm. Numerical. Geo-positionally accurate. A passionate workaholic. A man of action.

HISTORY
Morgan was born and raised in northern Indiana and currently resides in Los Angeles. He began making short films with his parents' VHS camera at the age of 11 when he proclaimed someday he would be a film director. He made his first CG animation at the age of 12 with a stop motion technique using a first generation digital camera, photoshop, and VCR. He convinced his high school to buy 3D modeling software and taught himself to use it over summer break. He then taught the teacher and the first class. He eventually enrolled in the TV & Film Production Program at Ball State University in Muncie Indiana. After three years he left and headed for Los Angeles and attended the NYFA Film School at Universal Studios for his fourth year of formal education. Seven years and hundreds of videos later, he enrolled at the Los Angeles Film School to pursue a degree in Animation and Visual Effects, due to his fondness for including visual effects in all of his films.

DIRECTOR
Morgan has directed literally hundreds of projects ranging from web videos to feature films. He has directed dozens of music videos for up-and-coming bands, including three videos for Cage the Elephant before they were signed with a major label. His experience has also led him to direct several TV spots for local businesses.

In 2008 Mead directed his first indie feature. The film was made in partnership with Ball State University and was a dramedy entitled My Name is Jerry starring Doug Jones, Don Stark, and Catherine Hicks. The partnership was a first of its kind- never before had a university funded a film developed by an outside production company. My Name is Jerry is distributed by Osiris Entertainment. At the same time, Mead was producing a documentary about the American megachurch phenonmenon, The Alpha and the Mega, which took Mead all over the country filming at a series of megachurches.

His latest feature film, a roaring comedy called My Bloody Wedding, has finished a successful festival run and is being distributed by Rsquared Films.

VISUAL FX
Morgan Mead is a visual FX artist with experience in Maya, 3DS Max, ZBrush, After Effects, Mocha, and Photoshop. He's always had a fondness for creating visual FX, and until enrolling at LAFS in 2011 he was completely self taught. His own films had him creating space battles, toddlers with adult heads battling self-aware animal crackers, robots with laser vision, and much more.
